THE APPRENTICES
The Game Changing Kingdom

Today's Message:
'counter culture kingdom'

These blessings strike us as very odd. On the one hand, they sound like good news—especially for those who are beaten, abandoned, down-and-out, hurt, weak, discouraged, and oppressed. On the other hand, the blessings completely invert the cultural norms of Jesus’ day and ours. We expect Him to declare the middle-class mantras of our time: “Blessed are the wealthy, for they have everything they need.” “Blessed are the healthy, for they will prevail in the struggle for survival.” “Blessed are the educated, for their knowledge gives them superior leverage.” “Blessed are the powerful, for they call the shots.” “Blessed are the famous, for they always have admirers.” But Jesus sees greater blessing in qualities we usually dismiss or avoid.

Humility is not an abject, defeated attitude. To the contrary, it recognizes the “divine image” in everyone and refuses to manipulate or exploit anyone. It springs from a profound sense of the Father’s sovereignty and a deep trust in His provision and love. It sees life as bigger and more than “me” and dedicates itself to “us.” It eschews the trivial honors that commonly divide us but respects all people for their greatest honor of all—being created in the image of God. And to the extent that we nurture this “poor in spirit” attitude we discover the secret of contentment and productivity.

"Nehemiah"
by Kelly Minter

Nehemiah: A Heart That Can Break - Member Book by Kelly Minter is a 7-session Bible study for women. Nehemiah's heart was so broken for those in need that he left the comfort of his Persian palace to help them. Like Kelly's other studies in the Living Room Series, you'll find authentic Bible teaching, recipes, and a relational approach. Nehemiah also includes 7 video sessions and real-life ways to put feet to your faith. Are you ready to let God break your heart for a hurting, lost world and move you in compassion to be the hands and feet of Jesus?

SPRING MOMS STUDIES

Book Club for Moms and MOMs Bible Study were created to help moms of young families face the challenges unique to the beginning stages of parenting. Each study stands alone and alternates weeks to allow the busy mom the flexibility of meeting every week or twice a month, depending on her schedule and commitments.

  • Book Club for Moms meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Cost is $10 to help defer babysitting costs. We will be reading selected passages from the Scriptures and applying the principles learned to our lives as moms. Some of the Scriptures we will be studying... Genesis 39-45, Psalm 119 and 139, Malachi, John 14-17, Colossians, Ephesians, and 1 John.
  • MOMs Bible Study meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. This study is led by Janet Mountjoy, an "empty-nester that has a lot of wisdom and practical advice for the young mother. This group puts Titus 2:4-5 into action. Janet spends the first half of the meeting sharing from her heart and the Word in an informal Bible Study and devotion. The second half of the meeting is spent in fellowship and practical learning achieved through presentations given by a variety of guest speakers or through a time of sharing with each other. Cost is $25.  Along with Janet's devotions, we will be tentatively looking into some of the following things:
Organizing your home
Spiritual Plan for families - outlined in Scripture
Craft day
Planning great family vacations
Info on schooling options
The history of the election process
Gardening with kids
