It was the early 1990s. A church leadership serving a church body of around 300 people looking at a town, the culture of the town, the growth areas of the town, and the future of the church - but also praying about the future of lost people made a bold step of faith and did a total relocation.
That church was named “Westside Christian Church.”
The new location would be 3900 Forum Blvd., Columbia, MO.
Since that time frame, thousands of people have been impacted and changed by that decision of faith.
Four years ago, some of those same leaders made a faith decision to expand the current facility for the purpose of connecting people to Jesus.
Since opening that lobby 1.5 years ago, nearly another 300 people have been impacted and are getting connected to Jesus.
Take just this week for example. One child was baptized Sunday morning. Another 3 children were baptized Wednesday night. One teen was baptized Wednesday night. This Sunday morning another woman will be baptized into Christ.
Women’s Bible studies are happening for single women. Men’s groups are happening. Teens worshipped on Wed. night. Children’s Theater happened on Sunday night. A group of guys play basketball on Tuesday night. And many other studies and discipleship options happened as well. Life groups meet throughout the city. A ministry of recovery happens on Sunday afternoon.
God opened a door, and a leadership faithfully stepped through it.
The church body stepped through the door in faith.
And now many people are stepping through the doors and coming into faith.
God is good.
Now the leadership is stepping through a new door by faith. You’ve read about the goal and hopes to redesign our current gym for our preschool and elementary kids (we’re still awaiting those plans and renderings), relocate our high school and middle school classes into the new family life facility, to expand the office areas, and to have full courts for basketball and recreational space. That area will also have full sound and a stage platform for performing arts, worship, and ministries like our 55+ ministry.
It’s another bold step of faith.
One of the things we do as leaders and the body of Christ is to step through the doors the Lord opens by faith.
This Sunday, the sermon is titled, “When God opens a door.” It’s going to help all of us to discern the leading of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives and how to respond to that by faith. I’m praying that all of us open our eyes and hearts to the activity of God in our lives, in His church, and in this world. Then, when we see it, by faith - we join Him. Looking forward to a great worship encounter with all of you this Sunday!
