For those of you who follow this blog every week since its inception over 10 years ago, you know I don’t talk about politics. Ever. In my opinion, they are beneath the high calling of the kingdom of God.
And here’s the overall landscape of our national society and fabric this week:
- Huge accusations and substantive confirmed negligence of people in government at the highest levels
- Shootings that once again are inflaming division along ethnic lines
- Continued murdering of Christians in the Middle East
It’s really a bad news world out there.
God told us these types of things would occur before the return of Christ:
“Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
"Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”
“…When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day” (excerpts from Matthew 24).
Unique phrase: “…the days of Noah.”
The days of Noah: the earth was filled with violence and immorality. Sound familiar? So God used water to completely reboot and restart the earth because things were so very, very bad.
But did you notice the great news in the middle of all that yuck?
The Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world!!!
And that’s what we are doing at Forum. And that’s what faithful churches are doing throughout the world. And that’s exciting. And that’s truly the refreshing truth and good news our world needs. It comes from God.
If you think humankind has solutions, XXXXXXXX (think of the buzzer sound on Family Feud) - nope - we don’t.
So this Sunday we start a fresh new series called, “Lifewater.” We’re going to focus on the living water of Christ. We’ll talk about how Christ changes and transforms things. We’ll look at some of the apostle John’s record of Jesus using and talking about water and how those things touch and transform our life and our world.
I’m praying this series be one of the most refreshing drinks of spiritual water that you ever encounter.
The scriptures talk about the type of thirst and yearning we should have for Christ and the things of God:
“As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you…”
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness….”
“Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink!”
Invite friends and family this Sunday - this world needs true hope. This world needs good news. This world needs to turn to Jesus. Can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday.
