There is one thing every human being who has ever lived has in common, and it is the thing we work hardest to keep hidden. We are quick to name it in other people and remarkably slow to name it in ourselves, and most of us are working from a definition we inherited rather than one we ever examined. It goes all the way back to a garden, to a conversation that sounded harmless right up until it wasn't, and to a question nobody wanted to answer. What if the thing you have been calling a mistake was never a mistake at all?
